Halloween O'Versary

Having a wedding anniversary the day after Halloween makes things so much easier to remember. I'm so lucky that we're packing up and heading to California tomorrow to go to Disneyland, where we'll celebrate our 4 year wedding anniversary!

If you've been reading the blog for a while, first of all, you're rad. Secondly, you know that we are huge Disney fans. We got engaged at Disneyland and even took some fun engagement pictures there.

I'm so excited to go to the happiest place on earth with my favorite person on earth! I'll even get to see some of my best friends and family while I'm in L.A. I haven't quite figured out how to stop working while I'm on vacation, but I promise to have fun in between obsessively checking emails.

The One Where I Endorse Obama

I've read so many posts online about people voting for Romney, and I wanted to share my thoughts on voting for Barack Obama.

When the economy crashed in 2008, I was laid off from my job in hospitality. The economy was hard on everyone, and luxury travel wasn't on anyone's mind.

Because of my health issues, I have to have insurance. I can't even count the number of hospital visits and doctor appointments I've had in the past few years. When I was laid off, I lost my health insurance. Because I was laid off, I had no income. Because I had a pre-existing condition, I was denied medical insurance. I was more fortunate than some because I was able to obtain health insurance through COBRA for several months while I looked for work, but the COBRA insurance cost over $1200 per month. That's pretty difficult to manage when you're not working and actively looking for employment. Our health care system is fundamentally flawed, and I don't believe that people should be denied healthcare because something was "already wrong with them".

I have many gay friends. Some are people I've known most of my life. My friends are all so dear to my heart, and I can't imagine someone telling them that they don't have the right to love, the right to having a life partner, and the rights that any other partner would have, such as seeing a sick spouse in the hospital.

A friend posted this quote from Playwright Doug Wright, and I have to say I completely agree.

"I wish my moderate Republican friends would simply be honest. They all say they're voting for Romney because of his economic policies (tenuous and ill-formed as they are), and that they disagree with him on gay rights. Fine. Then look me in the eye, speak with a level clear voice, and say," My taxes and take-home pay mean more than your fundamental civil rights, the sanctity of your marriage, your right to visit an ailing spouse in the hospital, your dignity as a citizen of this country, your healthcare, your right to inherit, the mental welfare and emotional well-being of your youth, and your very personhood." It's like voting for George Wallace during the Civil Rights movements, and apologizing for his racism. You're still complicit. You're still perpetuating anti-gay legislation and cultural homophobia. You don't get to walk away clean, because you say you "disagree" with your candidate on these issues."

I believe everyone is entitled to their own beliefs, and I'm just voicing mine. I hope that everyone votes with their head and their heart on election day.

Sephora Samples

Walking into Sephora is like playing around in your mom's vanity. So many pretty things to try on, smell, and pamper yourself with. It's definitely dangerous.

Since I'm horribly indecisive, the samples they make at Sephora are the best way to test a product to see if it works for you. I've suffered from countless buyers remorses, so the ability to try things on and see how they work is my favorite. No pressure!

Here are a few of the things I'm sampling from Sephora:

Perfect Cleansing Oil and Eyes
Verdict: I'm trying to get used to putting oil on my face when I usually try to remove oil from my face. Definitely gentle and easy to clean off my eye makeup. Verdict is out.
DermaDoctor Wrinkle Revenge Eye Balm
DermaDoctor Wrinkle Revenge
Clinique Moisture Surge
Clinique All About Eyes Rich
So far, my favorites have both been from Dermadoctor. The product feels richer and I could use the anti-aging qualities. I sampled both of the products separately and didn't think I'd sway from the skincare products my mom has used forever, but the samples won me over.

Have you tried any great new skincare items lately?

Sick Days

Do you have a favorite "sick day" routine? I love to cuddle up with my dogs on my down comforter and watch my all-time favorite movie, "You've Got Mail".

And I think I would feel even better in this North Face tunic from REI and a pair of leggings.

Also, I'm really loving the show Nashville. The music is fantastic (especially the couple who reminds me of The Civil Wars. (*Edit: Apparently I like them because the song is originally by the Civil Wars.)

Cheers to healthier days!

Hair Help!

Every fall, the leaves change color. For some reason it seems every time the leaves change their color, I want to change my hair color.

This year, my friend suggested I go to a wig shop with her to try on some different hair looks before taking the plunge. Here are a couple possibilities - let me know your thoughts!

Pay no attention to the news anchor hair

Sorry for the awful expression here

Fraggle! Who doesn't love Fraggle Rock?

This one reminds me of Sully from Monsters Inc.

This would be a cute couple's costume

And of course, some of my favorite kid costumes:

My favorite baby costume of all time!

So presh - Sophia from Golden Girls
What are you going to be for Halloween?
