Living Room Inspiration

I have finally reached the pinnacle of adulthood - I've bought my first TV. Yes, our living room is now the home to a 42" flat screen today, which means the white TV/VCR combo I've had since I was 16 is probably going out to pasture.

I personally am not that huge on TV size or quality - my eyesight is so poor that more definition doesn't really do anything for me. However, I am excited to look for a new entertainment center, since our current one used to be my husband's shoe rack.

It's hard getting furniture piece-by-piece. All of the furniture we have is 2nd hand, and because of this nothing matches. Our current living room has a dark wood coffee table we found at a swap meet, my husband's grandpa's blue plaid couch, brown and white bookcases and our black media stand. It's a mess. And as much as I'd love to jump the gun and get a new stand ASAP I'm trying to evaluate what I'd like my potential adult-ish living room to look like and purchase accordingly.

I'm a huge fan of vintage, shabby chic and rustic styles. Below are some living room loves I keep in my "Home Inspiration" folder. Any tips on where to find affordable furniture or how the heck to start designing would be helpful!

Kind of a fan of this one:

  1. First of all, I have an entertainment center EXACTLY like that bottom one in our garage that you can have if you want it.

Secondly, matchy matchy furniture is so old school. I think the key is to find pieces that you love individually, but that go together in some way. not the same color or material, but the same feel. Definitely hit up the flea markets and thrift stores and find things that might need a bit of TLC.

  2. I love all of your inspiration! It takes soooooooo long to get a house in order, so don't fret! It takes time! Can't wait to see what you do with the place :) xoxo {av} p.s. congrats on your big girl purchase...and happy valentine's day!

  3. I like that last picture of the cabinet. It has storage and that's always a good thing!

  4. My tv is still my favorite thing I've bought in my house, haha, and my seagrass head board! It tooks me MONTHS to find everything for my house because I bought it all seperately. But I love it all now that I have it. I slept on just matresses for months until I could find the headboard I wanted, haha. I agree with the girl above, I like the last one. I am a huge fan of wicker baskets!!
