Happy Birthday To You!

Happy 22nd birthday to my younger, yet much taller, little sister. I love you so much and think the world of you. Keep living your dreams, singing karaoke and dancing Irish jigs.

Fatty Bear made you a birthday cake, but he ate it all.

Of Updates and Jumpsuits

Most important things first: I bought a jumpsuit.

After years of the back and forth of "can I look half as cool as Cher?" I bit the bullet and jumped on the bandwagon. I'm not sure how the bandwagon feels yet because yes, the jumpsuit does feel like I slipped into some cozy, yet stylish sweats, but the jury is out on the actual fit of it.

Thanks to my supportive husband who didn't even blink when I asked, "Honey, I'm about to do something kinda crazy at 10 at night and I might need you to take a photo."

#2
I'm going to start going back to the office twice a week for half days. I've had to work from home since January, but the combination of stir-craziness, missing my work buddies and not wearing clothes that match is overpowering my doctor's recommendation to continue only working from home. I've been going in once a week the past 3 weeks for a few hours and come home completely exhausted, but I'm hoping that I'll get some stamina back and be able to act like a human for 4 hours.

#3
I really want to write something about the healthcare reform, but I think everything that has ever needed to be said has been said. With that, I'll just add that I'm extremely excited for Rush Limbaugh's move to Costa Rica. Bon Voyage!

#4
I have a crush. A crush on dresses with pockets. Because let's face it, sometimes I have no idea what to do with my hands, and sometimes my hands may or may not want to inappropriately want to poke someone in the eye. So what better way to deter my behavior than spending money on pocketed dresses that will keep me in check? I have my eye on these guys from Banana Republic:

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend - we couldn't have asked for more beautiful weather here! Even the grasshoppers agree.

(Look, my skin looks like diamonds in the sun, just like in Twilight! Maybe I need to invest in some self-tanner.)

Top 2 Tuesdays - Celebrity Style

I love The Undomesticated Momma's blog and was excited to play along with her "Top 2 Tuesday". It's so hard to pick just two celebrity styles, so I had to pick my favorites and throw in some honorable mentions...I'm cheating, I know!

1. Nicole Richie

I love her effortless style and how she makes everything "work". I don't think I can pull off half the things she does, but I give her tons of credit!

2. Victoria Beckham

She has a couple out-there looks, but who else can pull off 5-inch heels all the time? Being married to David Beckham doesn't hurt.

Honorable Mentions:
1. Katie Holmes (or Suri, if they made her clothes in grown-up sizes)

2. Rachel Bilson. Another gal with effortless style and a chic, breezy look.

Great movies you need to see, and the birthday party that will kick all other parties' booties

Saw some fantastic movies lately that I wanted to share.

#1 An Education

Beautiful, amazing soundtrack (if you love French music and jazz), and I was never bored, which is usually an issue. I hate being the person in the movie checking my phone and thinking, "OK, how much time is left?! What the heck are they going to do for the next hour I have to sit here??". Didn't happen with this one.

I related a lot to the main character who wanted to go to college, meet amazing people, read books, learn about life and travel to Paris. I honestly didn't take advantage of the opportunities I could have in college. I joined a sorority and partied - a lot. But I also got paid to go to concerts and write about bands, interview my favorite musicians, be a college radio DJ, spend nights at beach bonfires, meet the best friends I could ever hope for, and meet the man of my dreams who I eventually married. So even though I didn't get to be the intellectual in the sense I thought I would, I did have the experience of a lifetime, if that makes sense.

#2 Departures

If you hate subtitles you won't like this movie one bit. The movie is about a Japanese cellist whose orchestra dissolves and he takes a job preparing the dead for funerals. It sounds incredibly morbid, but everything was very tasteful. It won an Academy Award a few years ago for Best Foreign Film and just seeing the trailer made me excited to see it. If you like visually stunning films and emotionally moving characters you'll love it.

The two countries I've always wanted to visit are Paris and Japan, so I thought these movies were very fitting when I feel like escaping from my personal worries.

In other news, it's Mr. Bee's DIRTY 30 on Friday!! It will be very low-key. If I'm up to it I'd like to take him to a little jazz bar down the street. I wish I was able to do more, but maybe next year he'll have a Flirty and Fun 31 and I can make it up to him. Moonbounces, skate rink, Johnny Weir doing the YMCA, the works.
