Too Sleepy For Subjects

Sorry I've been a bad blogger - I've spent the last few days in and out of the doctor's office/hospital and it hasn't been fun. I've been too tired to read or write and have been laying on my couch completely worthless trying to concentrate on bad TV. If anyone has any bad TV recommendations I'm all ears!! Luckily there is a Rachel Zoe marathon, so I have at least a few hours taken care of.

Anyway, this has given me time to think about my Halloween costume, and I think I'm leaning towards being...a bee! I know, surprise surprise. I've found a ton of costumes but I really don't want to be typical scandalous slutty bee like every other girl in San Diego. I love the bee costumes they have for kids with the full tutus, so I'm seeing if I can either make something or have something made on etsy. Here are some that I have for inspiration:

My other option is to give in to San Diego's usual slutty attire and become...slutty Chewbacca. Yes, Chewbacca in some type of bikini or vinyl dress or stripperwear. I think it could be my best costume ever.

Anyway, just wasting my days away on my couch, wishing I was feeling better and helping my advisees with rush this weekend. :( If anyone has any suggestions for how to keep sane while not able to do anything I'm all ears!

Keep Bugging Me!

In real life, I am quite afraid of creepy crawlies. In fact, that's why I'm married (kidding honey). But in fashion life (?) I adore them. Actually, if they weren't so creepy and crawly and stingy and were more cute and cuddly I would adore little pet bumblebees. So scientist friends, hop to on those mutant cuddlebees!

I absolutely love this website design for Apple & Bee - an eco-friendly handbag, makeup bag and baby bag site. They support the bee foundation, which makes bees cheer for joy! And what's cuter than a cheering bee? Nothing, I assure you.

One of the only buggies on my Do Not Fear list is the ladybug. Red and black, cute little wings and kind of cuddly. And they help roses thrive! What better way to celebrate these cuddly little winged friends than show your support via fashion? Here are a few favs.

8 Glasses a Day

Lately I've been slacking on getting my 8 glasses of water a day, which is bad because:
a. It's been pretty hot
b. I get dehydrated easily
c. Don't I want to be healthy??
I've been looking for a reusable water bottle that I can bring around with me so that I always have some H20 on hand and I'm not always having little cups of water scattered around my desk like the little girl in the movie signs.
The thought of carrying a water bottle around with me everyone just strikes me as very 1980's workout gear-inspired (think big hair and leotards), but some of the water bottles are surprising downright cute in addition to being earth-friendly. Word on the street is the best water bottle on the market is Sigg (no BPA's, which lead to breast cancer). Through Sigg and Cafe press, you can actually design your own custom water bottles (and even monogram them!). Here are two that I made:
Do any of you use reusable water bottles, and if so, what do you recommend?

The Buzz on Pumpkin Beer

Ok, you all know that my favorite season is fall because of the clothes, weather, and things that smell/taste like pumpkin.

I'm not a beer drinker by any means, but I do love Buffalo Bill's Pumpkin Ale. Mr. Bee and I buy several cases every year so that we can drink it year-round since it's only out seasonally. Sure there's Jack's Pumpkin Ale and Blue Moon Pumpkin Ale, but you are seriously missing out if you don't try Buffalo Bills. You can usually pick up at BevMo, and you used to be able to find it at Whole Foods, although I had issues finding it there last year.

And although this has nothing to do with drinking and is completely sideways, here's my favorite video of my dog Eleanor as a puppy jumping off a case of pumpkin ale. Cracks me up every time I watch it.

KatherineBee Meets the iPhone

I thought 26 was going to be a downer of a birthday, but I actually had a great time. Mr. Bee's mom and grandma came down this weekend and took me out for some yummy lobster tacos (and tequila) and gave me an amazing gift I've been craving forever...a vacuum cleaner! But not just any vacuum cleaner - it actually tells you when your carpet is clean. No matter how much I've vacuumed I can't get it to turn green, but I'm determined!

My parents made me stay up till 12 the night before my birthday so I could open my presents via Skype with them. I got an iPhone which I've been scared as heck to get, but absolutely love so far. I've been playing with all of the functions and on my recent mall trip I tested the camera. I haven't actually figured out how to take photos without also staring at the phone, but I'm working at it!

Fav Lilly dress of all time.

Birthday dress from Mr. Bee!

Anthropologie doggie dress - not loving it.

Other Anthropologie dress I thought I liked on sale - not a winner.

On my actual birthday I worked and then head home to prepare for my birthday date with Mr. Bee at our favorite sushi place in Hillcrest. Boy was I surprised when we were there for a bit and all of my friends showed up!! He is such a sneaky one and I love it!! We had some amazing sushi and some sake, and the waiter brought us 2 extra bottles of sake, which Mr. Bee made me finish. I am a total lightweight these days, and was not pulling off the sober act very well.

Me and the girls!

Just part of the sake. Ouch.

Came home and cuddled and it was the end to a perfect birthday weekend, until I woke up this morning with a wrinkle. 26 is old enough for Botox, right? I asked my boss for a raise this morning so I can wage some serious warfare on my face. I don't think it went over well. Does anyone have any amazing skincare tips? I can't be an old hag already!!

Oh, and my fabulous friend Christina got me the Anthropologie skirt I've been wanting forever, which is amazing because when I went by the other day it was out of stock!! And y fbetter yet, it has pockets! 10 more points! It goes great with the I Love Michael Jackson pins that I got from my friend Kim. I swear my friends know me better than I know myself.

KatherineBee vs. The Mall

September for me means the coming of pumpkin candles, questionably warm weather, my birthday, and almost all of my best friends' birthdays all in a row. I mustered the strength to hit up the mall today and see if I had the willpower to not purchase anything for myself. I ended up not purchasing anything!! A small victory for my willpower and a loss for finding anything for my friends. I did however find a million things I loved at Anthropologie (big surprise) - and 2 of them happened to have a dog-print pattern. I didn't expect that turning 26 would mean turning into a crazy old dog lady.

Cavorting Canines Dress

Scottie Romper

I don't know if I have the courage to actually wear a romper, but it was super cute. Even if means that I am showing the world my love for dogs via fashion.

I actually found the strength to go into Charlotte Russe (which I haven't been in forever because almost everything in there I can find at Forever 21 at a better price) and their fall clothes were super cute - but everything I tried on was lacking in some way.

Tweed dress

Itchy and tight in the wrong places. A bit too short for work.

Itchy!!! Too tight in the chest in the medium, too large everywhere else in the large.

Boucle Jacket

Itchy and too stiff.

So fortunately in this instance - no winners. Off to watch the True Blood finale - hopefully it's as good as I hope it will be!

The Buzz on Fall/Winter Coats

Just because it's still 80 degrees outside doesn't mean I can't look at coats that could one day potentially be mine. I usually get some great finds at Nordstrom's Rack, but every once in a while I find some cute coats in other places.

Forever 21
(Cute, inexpensive coats and jackets you can wear once and throw away)

Victoria's Secret:

That last one is really different, but would be super cute with skinny jeans with boots over them. I have so many coats that I love already, but I'm kind of a collector. I think I secretly hope that one day I'll live somewhere super cold and have practical use for my coats.

Other great places for lower-priced coats: Loehmann's, Saks Off 5th, Marshall's, Guess

Of Sickness and Glee

I've been trying to fight being sick all week and it's finally catching up with me. I've been trying to rest up and be lazy, and with fall TV back in action it's made it easy. The show Glee was finally on last night and I have to say I love the character Emma Pillsbury's wardrobe. Hello J. Crew!!

My other guilty pleasure of the week was watching the movie Nancy Drew. It was actually really cute and the clothes Emma Roberts* wore were to die for.

I'm also trying to take my sick time to catch up on all of my blog and book reading now that I am no longer computerless! I have to say that being pale and now having dark hair is not helping the sickly palor - any makeup tips to make me look more alive? I even self-tanned last night and I still look like a ghost. It may still be hot here but judging from my skin color you'd think I live underground in Alaska.

Hope everyone had a great Labor Day!
* My husband, an avid blog reader, pointed out that I wrote "Emma Watson" and not "Emma Roberts. I blame being sick.

It's Almost Pumpkin Season

Fall isn't here, but pumpkin-inspired smells are popping up everywhere!

My personal favorite drink (until soy peppermint mochas in December) are the Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Lattes. I take mine with soy milk, decaf, with a pink of cinnamon and nutmeg on top (no whip). Delish. I would have waited a good hour to get in the store the day it came out.

Other loves

Pumpkin Patch Candle (My fav!!)

Sweet Pumpkin Hand Soap

Healthy Hair Pumpkin Restoring Shampoo

Trader Joe's Pumpkin Bread and muffin mix
Now that I'm stoked up I have to figure out an amazing Halloween costume. Last year I was Bjork when she wore the swan costume. I don't think I can beat that.

College Football Season!

This weekend kicks off college football - hurray! And am I heading off to my alma mater to cheer on  my local team? No way!
Ok, it's not that I don't love SDSU, but the football there is a joke. When I went to school there we were the SDSU Aztecs with Monty Montezuma fighting for our team in the stands, blowing his conch shell triumphantly. After a few years there and many verbal battles over the depiction of an "Aztec," our mascot when from Monty:
Ok, not bad...

to this:
I'm sorry, but that just looks like a man in panties and a chicken hat.

I understand the need to be culturally aware, but personally I felt like this was a joke. If you're going to change the mascot and the image of the school, why not just make it some type of animal so no feelings get hurt. You could even make it some not as cool football animal, like a meerkat or a herring and I'd be ok with it. Seriously!

Besides that, they're not really fun to watch. During college I'd be there for the tailgate and maybe 1/3 of the game and head home. There was no school spirit, and it was just pretty devastating to watch your college team get pounded brutally game after game.
Anyway, when I was younger I used to go to my uncle's football games all the time when he played for the Georgia Bulldogs. I had Georgia Bulldog everything (even the cheerleading outfit) and had a great time cheering for them and feeding Uga (III?) sugar cubes. So in the spirit of cheering on a team I actually feel a connection with, my college team is the Georgia Bulldogs.
There's my little man!

Did I go to college there? No. Do I wish I had? You bet your Aunt Fanny. So maybe I'm a bit of a cheater, but I'm a bulldog lover. Do any of you cheer for a college team you didn't go to? Make me feel better about being a complete traitor.

Can I have my wedding again?
